Check the links for Other sites The new baby and I flew into Mexico on Thursday August 11th 2005 . He is a gorgeous example of standard poodle puppy from the Bunker kennels in Tyler, Texas Because he is my fourth standard poodle he is named D'artagnan for the fourth musketeer. When you bring in a pet by air there is a form called the Aduana form that you must fill out. In that form there is a check off box asking if you are bringing in a live animal. When you check that you can be sure someone will be there to check the paperwork, health forms etc. I am sure even if you are shipping in cargo, not in cabin it will be the same way.
Second picture is Dart and Dida. he is six months in this one. Pet Friendly Accommodations in Mexico. April-04 Check the list on this website!! http://gringodog.home.comcast.net/pet-friendly.htm
Parrots and Horses- I have a couple of friends in the process now so I will give you ALL the details when they get them through!. This is a message from a friend dated June 04 "I'm a little depressed about it as the more I
read, the more 1/14/04-Birds and Horses- A reader e-mailed me about bringing in 8! parrots
so I went to the local authority on birds. Jeffrey Kay is a hard worker at the
animal shelter. He is also the benefactor that gave them the building and the
land. At his home just about a block from our house he has a huge aviary. He
said when he imported some birds, he had to go to the consulate in Guad and get
written permission to import the birds. Than he had to go back to Arizona, get
all the health papers on the birds and he flew them back here. There is normally
a quarantine on birds but he got out of it somehow. It appears to be a
much more difficult process than dogs and cats! With horses there is also a
quarantine period. They are kept somewhere here in Mexico. "...We have a dog, couple of cats and a Cockatoo. ....Immigrating birds of any kind from certain states (North Carolina is one of about 8 states.. I do not have a list of all states involved) into Mexico is forbidden because of some kind of poultry disease." This is kind of sad. The gentleman has a hand raised, not kidnapped/smuggled from the wild bird and he can't bring it with him when he retires. I'm going to do some more research and get back to you all. I do know horses are allowed but beyond that, if your four footed of choice is a pot-bellied pig or a hamster, or a ferret, I really don't know. Tune in next week!
10/02- After bringing Woody in by car and I'll soon be flying in with Dida I can say that while you should do the paperwork just to cover yourself, based on my and friends' experiences, most of the time they don't even look at all your documentation!! At the 25 mile point the man chirped at Woody and NEVER asked to se any of the papers! We drove straight through from Laredo to Guad, but if you want to stop overnight ..Las Palmas in Matehuala.is a hotel/motel that accepts pets. Here is the AKC site that deals with foreign dog registrations and showing. I may be showing Dida in both conformation and agility so we can all watch as I navigate a foreign kennel club in a language in which I am only marginally fluent!! http://www.akc.org/registration/specreg.cfm
You can bring your pets with you when you retire to Mexico. As I mentioned earlier we do have a dog. My husband is thrilled that we are down to one, as there were times when there were five in the house and more in the kennel. I no longer show in conformation or obedience and Hasting Farm's White Echo-CDX aka Woody the standard poodle is the last of the "house pack." At the ripe old age of 13, he will, God willing, be arriving with us in July. Since we will be driving we won't have to go through the nail biting hell of shipping a big dog by air. Anytime something live goes in baggage, not the passenger cabin, it is time for nail biting! I have already checked with our vet about the health forms, shots and paperwork we will need to do in order to bring him into Mexico. It isn't much different from the paperwork we used to do when we took the Cairns into Canada to use a stud there that I was particularly enamored with. If you or the vet are not sure exactly what you need, check the links on the page above. They deal with airlines, countries and just general international pet traveling rules and regs. Do note that your health certificate must be 72 hours or less old. If you are driving with your things and your pets on your move, and it takes longer than that, you will have to get a "fresh" certificate some where before you cross the border. I would think most vets in Texas would certify this as long as you had shots etc proof from your home vet. Years ago I remember seeing a Mexican Championship added onto some dogs' title list. Yes you can show your dog in Mexico. Here is the web site, which I confess I can NEVER get to load, but also the address and phone numbers. (**Update** Jennifer Rose from Morelia e-mailed me this new address!!! This one works!! Thanks Jennifer) There is a sign that an English version is under construction. We can hope!!! Federation Canofila Mexicana
A.C. Once we move I want to research the Mexican version of Obedience and agility competitions.
Woody and I at Poodle Club of America Specialty in his much younger days. He won a big OB class that day. RIP ...Hastings White Echo born 10/30/1989 ----- died 10/25/ 2004. Woody darling we will miss you forever.
